A Death Sentence
Complications in pregnancy and childbirth can be a death sentence in developing countries, yet almost all of these deaths could be prevented.
The harsh truth is that of the half a million women who die of pregnancy-related complications each year, 99% live in the developing world. The impact on newborns is just as grim, with mortality rates up to 30 times higher in places like South Sudan than in Australia.
This is without question a global tragedy – but one that Médecins Sans Frontières is working to change patient by patient.
Delivering the Best Solutions
Access to trained medical staff during pregnancy and delivery – and access to emergency assistance in the event of complications – is urgently needed in resource-poor settings.
Within just 18 months of Médecins Sans Frontières establishing a program in South Sudan, the mortality rate dropped significantly – an impact only made possible by the generous support of people like you.
We know we can deliver more successful pregnancies, but we desperately need the resources to continue. That’s why we’re asking for your help today.
