Delivering practical medical solutions

Médecins Sans Frontières was founded in 1971 by a small group of doctors and journalists who believed that all people should have access to emergency medical assistance.

What we do

We provide relief after natural disasters such as floods or earthquakes. We help victims of conflict. We run emergency feeding programs and organise food distribution during nutritional crises. We tackle neglected diseases such as malaria, HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and kala azar. We organise mass vaccination programs to prevent epidemics spreading. And we give pregnant women and their babies essential access to free, expert, quality medical care.

What your donation could do

Your donation could help provide practical medical assistance in many different situations, for many different people in need the world over. For example:

  • Haemorrhage accounts for more than a quarter of all maternal deaths in developing countries. A gift of $50 could help purchase three vials of oxytocin, an effective drug which can be administered to a woman who is haemorrhaging.
  • A gift of $100 could help pay for a vacuum extractor to help a woman give birth when labour becomes obstructed.
  • Helping a pre-term baby take its first breaths can make all the difference during the crucial first hours of life. $200 could contribute towards an infant warmer to keep struggling newborn babies alive.

Women are dying needlessly in developing settings, not from disease but from something normal called pregnancy. To have a safe pregnancy and birth, all they need is access to basic medical care.
